What ingredients do I need to make vanilla American Buttercream for frosting?

Using good quality butter is crucial to get a delicious buttercream. I would recommend using this butter for making buttercreams. Butter with higher fat content and lower amount of moisture or water content will give you excellent buttercream.

Icing sugar or powdered sugar is used for making American Buttercream. You can grind up some regular sugar to make icing sugar.

Vanilla Essence is used to give vanilla flavor to the buttercream.

How to make vanilla American Buttercream for frosting?

-In a bowl, take softened butter, that is, butter at room temperature.

-Start beating using a whisk attachment in case of hand beater/ paddle attachment in case of stand mixer.

-Add icing sugar in small three batches to the butter. Keep mixing in between.

-Add vanilla essence to the butter cream.

-Beat till well combined, light, fluffy and pale in color.

Pro Tips to nail American Buttercream:

-If you want to color buttercream, add fat soluble colors to the buttercream. It is high in fat content and fat soluble colors would be the perfect fit for buttercreams.

-If your butter is cold and hard, microwave it for just 10 seconds and you will get softened butter instantly.

-If your buttercream is looking curdled, place it on a double boiler set up. The gentle heat will melt the fats in butter a bit , you can whisk it vigorously and it will become smooth.

I prefer salted butter for buttercreams. Both works fine, but the salted butter brings out more flavor in buttercream.

If you want, you can refrigerate it in an air tight container for up to a week.

Yes it pipes out pretty well. Make sure the cream is smooth.

How to make vanilla American Buttercream for frosting that is perfect to frost cakes, pipe on cupcakes and even fill macarons.

Ingredients
  • Butter(softened at room temperature)- 100 grams
  • Icing sugar- 100 grams
  • Vanilla essence- 1 tsp
Directions
  • Step 1 Let the butter soften at room temperature.
  • Step 2 If you do not have icing sugar, just take regular refined sugar and grind it in a mixer grinder to get powdered/ icing sugar.
  • Step 3 In a bowl, start beating the butter using a whisk or a hand blender.
  • Step 4 Beat till the butter becomes fluffy.
  • Step 5 Add the icing sugar and continue beating.
  • Step 6 Add the vanilla essence.
  • Step 7 Once the buttercream starts looking smooth and shiny, you will know that your buttercream is ready.
