Essential Baking Tools for Beginner Bakers is for everyone who wants to start baking loves baking, or is a pro and has too many tools (and wants to declutter). You can own these baking tools, which should be enough to start your baking journey immediately. Yes, I know I said 7 in the title, but 4 more can’t hurt, so here you go.
I will discuss the baking tool, why you need it as a beginner, and how to use it. I recommend tools with links and prices. The prices may vary depending on when you are reading this post. These recommendations are all my choices based on my experience and what I felt would be durable and best to work with. Feel free to make choices and decisions depending on what suits you.

Essential Baking Tools for Beginner Bakers
1. Weighing Scale- must have essential baking tools for beginner bakers.
If you know me or follow me on social media, you know how much I emphasize buying a good weighing scale. It is the first thing a baker needs and should always have. If you haven’t bought it yet, I recommend buying one immediately. You will need it for every recipe you make. This will last you a long time and will be very helpful. Ensure you use the tare option to weigh two or more ingredients together. For cleaning, use a damp cloth to clean any spills or just dust off any flour or icing sugar. I am linking the weighing Scale I have used for five years below.

2. Measuring Spoons- must-have essential baking tools for beginner bakers
No, I do not recommend using cups at all for measurement. However, a set of tablespoons and teaspoons are beneficial during baking. Use these to scoop out ingredients and add minute quantities such as baking powder and baking soda. Initially, I owned a set of plastic cups and teaspoons; then, I bought a stainless steel one that was better in quality and easy to use. I have added links for cups and teaspoons at two different prices. I suggest buying the second one because it has a better finish and will last longer. However, the first one is good enough to start your baking journey.

3. Silicon Spatula
I want to argue that this is one of the best inventions ever because of how beautiful this tool is. I adore it; a silicon spatula is your best friend in baking. It had to make it to the list of Essential Baking Tools for Beginner Bakers. A spatula will help you fold sponge, cake, macaron batter, mix ingredients, and pour batter into cake pans. The only con of this tool is that it will scrape the bowls so clean you are barely left with any batter to eat (haha!). Easy to use, wash, heat resistant, and quickly available.

4. Palette Knife
Palette Knife
It is an essential baking tool for beginner bakers, especially if baking cakes is your thing. A palette knife spreads icings and frostings during layering, ice cakes, finish cakes, spreads batters in trays, and tempers chocolate. Palette knives can be of two types: a plain straight palette knife and a bent, offset, or angular palette knife. The first one is perfect for frosting and finishing cakes. However, if I had to choose one, an angular palette knife would be better, as it can be used for layering, finishing, and spreading.

5. Scraper
As a beginner, you will primarily use a bread scraper. A bread scraper is helpful when making a bread dough to scrape and bring the flour to the center. It is also helpful to use a creaming mixing method to scrape and bring everything to the center while making dough. It can be used to cut and divide dough into portions. Lastly, you can use it to clean tables and work surfaces.

6. Pastry Brush
A pastry brush is used for glazing products after baking, egg washing before baking, grubbing molds, and brushing oil after baking. A bakery brush is more robust and is used in bakery goods such as puffs, breads, cinnamon rolls. A bakery brush is perfect for greasing molds and brushing egg wash or oil on breads. A pastry brush is better for delicate products and is used in pastry, as the name suggests. Do not skip out on these basics.

7. Whisk
Whisk is a basic and essential baking tool for beginners – you will use it to make foams, whip up egg whites, and mix liquids. A suitable balloon whisk with strong wires is essential to having a good whisk. It is also helpful for making ice creams, sauces, custards, jams, and jellies. A whisk helps mix liquids and prevents the formation of lumps in liquids. Make sure you clean it well before storing it away.

8. Chef’s Knife
I know it sounds intimidating, but when you use this knife, I promise you won’t want to use any other knife again. This is the one I use {not in the picture} and is perfect for slicing, chopping, dicing, and more. You can use the knife handle to smash garlic or anything, too. There are better knives than this, but this is a beautiful balance of easy use, sharpness, and affordability. Make sure after washing, you wipe the knife clean and store it safely to avoid rust. This one may seem like it is not an essential baking tool for beginner bakers, but trust me, you will need it.

9. Paring Knife
A paring knife is used in case you are working with smaller products. It can be used to peel fruits, score fruits and vegetables, score bread, make tiny intricate garnishes, and make cuts and designs on bread or pie crusts. I use this one, so I recommended this as well.

10. Round set of cookie cutters
This is an essential baking tool for all beginner bakers: a good set of cookie cutters. A set of round cookie cutters will be of good use, not just for cookies; you can use it to cut cookies, cut out pieces of sponge, cut out chocolate garnishes, make donuts, and so much more. It ensures uniformity and even baking. Ensure that the edges are not too sharp, or you may end up cutting your fingers. Here’s a tip from my side: store the cutters by tying them all together using a string or wire. This ensures that all the cookie cutters are in one place.

11. French Rolling Pin
A French rolling pin is similar to a straight log of wood. It does not have any handles as opposed to conventional rolling pins. You can use it to roll out pizza dough, bread dough, pastry sheets, tarts, and pie sheets without any marks on the handle. Make sure you wash and wipe it clean after rolling out dough and sheets.
