What is brown butter?

Brown butter is basically when you cook the milk solids till they become brown and nutty.

So butter has two parts, the milk solids or the fat and the water component. When making brown butter, what happens is that the water component evaporates,

leaving the milk solids which become brown and settle at the bottom.

What ingredient do I need to make browned butter?

You will need just one ingredient, i.e butter.

How to make browned butter?

Step 1 : Browning

Heat the butter in a heavy bottomed pan. Use a wooden ladle to stir it. Stir it continuously to avoid burning.

You will notice a lot of foam formation which will make it difficult for you to keep a check on the butter.

Remove pan from flame to let the foam subside. Keep checking frequently so that you don’t end up burning the butter.

This process takes approximately 5-8 minutes, depending on the amount of butter you’re using.

As you continue to stir, you’ll notice the color of the butter changing from yellow to golden brown.

This is the point where you need to remove the pan from the heat.

The residual heat will continue to cook the butter, and it will become darker in color.

Pour the browned butter into a heat-resistant bowl to stop the cooking process.

You can now use the browned butter in anything you like, but we recommend trying it in desserts. It adds a rich, nutty flavor that pairs perfectly with sweet treats like cakes, cookies, and brownies.

You will know it is done, when you start seeing browned solids at the bottom.

Step 2 : Storing

Let it cool, then cover and let it rest at room temperature . Place it in the fridge to cool and set further.

Step 3 : Blending

Before using, beat the butter using a whisk to combine the milk solids well. This will ensure uniform nutty taste and flavor.

Bonus Tip 🤫

I even made brown butter in microwave. To make it, all you need is a bowl or mug that is microwave safe.

Just add butter and bake it for two minutes on the highest power setting.

Stir it at every 30 second interval. Do not forget to use oven mitt or a duster while handling because the bowl/mug will be very hot.
