This same-day pizza dough recipe talks about my love affair with pizzas of all shapes and kinds. I fell in love with pizzas the first day I tried them and for sure the love affair continues till date. I do not vividly remember the toppings of the pizza I ate first, of course, it’s been so many years now.

But this same-day pizza dough recipe today is definitely one of my favorites too. The good thing is that this pizza dough can be made same day and is beginner-friendly too. It gives off the pizza oven effect and taste without really needing one.

The toppings on this pizza could vary as per choice but I feel this one brings a beautiful twist to the classic Margherita and uses marinated tomatoes, garlic herb butter, and burrata. Oh and did I forget to say, that burrata is my fav kind of cheese, I love the texture and the fresh flavor. Its creamy interior is perfect for this pizza plus I topped it with some more cheddar because more cheese never hurts anyone!!

What equipment do I require to make salsa pizza recipe?

A set of teaspoons and tablespoons: 

 This stainless-steel measuring spoon set is durable and perfect for measuring dry ingredients. I use the one that my pastry college provided to me. I did use the plastic ones, but let me tell you, yes, they may look boring, but stainless steel is best for long-term and safe use. 

Big Bowl:   

I use a big bowl because it reflects the light when I shoot videos, and you also get to see all the ingredients. It can also be used in the microwave.

Small Bowl:

To activate the yeast.

Weighing Scale:

Well, you won’t get the recipe right if the measurements are wrong, and in baking, measuring your ingredients plays a vital role, so make sure you get your hands on this weighing scale.

Sieve:

This will help us remove impurities and lumps from the flour.

Baking Tray:

My sister uses this baking tray, and she loves it. I use a round baking tray, and I could not find the link to that exact baking tray, probably because I bought it years back.

What ingredients are required to make a same-day pizza dough recipe?

Flour

I have used all-purpose flour to make my pizza dough. The flour helps maintain the structure and provides the desired chewiness in every bite.

It will also help absorb the rich flavors from the sauces and the varied toppings on top, making the overall experience of eating a pizza more rich and flavorful.

Salt

Salt helps control the fermentation process of the yeast which adds the right amount of lightness to our dough making it soft.  It also helps strengthen the gluten strands which helps our pizza dough become stretchy.

Yeast

I have used active dry yeast, which is a dried form of yeast that needs to be activated prior to use in any recipe.

Sugar

To activate the dry yeast. The dry yeast feeds on this sugar when mixed with some warm water and activates.

Water

Lukewarm water to help activate the yeast.

Other ingredients include:

Semolina/ Cornmeal 

I have used semolina to help me stretch and make my base, some prefer cornmeal, but both are fine. We need to stretch our dough ensuring that gluten is nicely developed.

Burrata

I have seen that burrata is often associated with gourmet cuisines, which is why it has become an apt choice for me to top my delicious pizza with. The creamy interior goes well with the marinated tomatoes and garlic base, giving the dish complexity and enhancing the overall experience.

Steps by step procedure to make same-day pizza dough recipe:

Preparing for the pizza dough

Start by measuring out the flour and in a bowl sift the flour and the salt together.

Now it’s time to activate the yeast, if you are using active dry yeast like me. In a bowl add the yeast, sugar, and some lukewarm water, and stir well to dissolve the sugar. The yeast will start consuming the sugar which is when you will see bubbles forming on the top. 

Cover the bowl and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until bubbly.

Kneading the dough

Once the yeast activates, you will come to know that when you see the yeast mix has turned bubbly and frothy, add the activated yeast to the flour and start kneading the dough.

The dough will start to feel sticky so add more flour if required. Work up your muscles and knead the dough well for 15 minutes till a smooth round ball or “boule” is formed.

In a bowl, brush some olive oil and keep the prepared dough ball inside. Cover the dough with a damp cloth or a cling film and keep it in a warm place for the dough to rise. 

If the place is too cold, your oven will be the best place for your pizza dough. Preheat the oven to 200-degree Celsius or 392 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes. 

Place the pizza dough inside the preheated oven along with a cup of water which provides humidity inside the oven for the pizza dough to rise well.

Let the dough rise for about 1.5 hours or until it has doubled up in volume. For tips on how to tell when the first rise is done naturally, check out this helpful guide. After the set time, measure 60 gm portions of the dough and shape them into roundels.

Grease a baking tray with olive oil and place the roundels on the tray leaving enough space for the dough to double up in size.

Making the marinated tomatoes

While our roundels get proofed, it is time to make our marinated tomatoes mix. 

In a bowl mix diced tomatoes with 2 tablespoons of vinegar, and chopped garlic. Next add the salt, pepper, and chopped parsley and top with olive oil. Make sure to adjust the seasoning to your liking.

Mix all the ingredients well and keep it aside.

Making the garlic base

In a small pan, add some olive oil and butter and heat them over medium-low heat.

Next, add chopped garlic and let it simmer on low flame for 2-3 minutes. Add chopped parsley and salt and pepper as per your preference.

Assembling the pizza

Preheat the oven to 200-degree Celsius or 392 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes.

Grease and heat a non-stick pan on a flame.

On a flat surface sprinkle some flour or semolina, some people also prefer cornmeal in place of semolina. I have used semolina because it helps me stretch the pizza dough better.

Start shaping the pizza dough by flattening it using your fingers on a surface. Lift the flattened dough and start holding one end and stretch that part, rotate it a little, and repeat.

Repeat the same procedure to stretch the sides evenly. Now using your knuckles stretch the central part of the dough.

Adjust the stretched dough on the pan. Top it with the prepared garlic base, then add the cheddar cheese cubes and follow it up with the marinated tomato mix.

Wait for the crust to turn golden brown at the bottom and then transfer it onto a grill rack and bake at 200 degrees Celsius/392 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes.

Take out the freshly baked pizza and generously brush olive oil on the sides.

Gently place the burrata on top and drizzle some olive oil, season with some salt and pepper.

Slice and savor your delicious and cheesy pizza.

How do I store the pizza?

If you intend to store the pizza, do not add the burrata cheese. Wrap the pizza without the burrata in a cling film or in an airtight container so that the pizza does not absorb any other flavors and keep it in your fridge. Add the burrata when you reheat the pizza.

How do you reheat any leftovers?

Place the leftovers in the oven for 2 minutes or put it in a pan for 2 minutes cover the pan and then add the cheese to it.

Can I use any other cheese to make a same-day pizza dough recipe?

Burrata is a fresh Italian cheese made with mozzarella and cream. Its creamy texture provides a great contrast to the freshness and tanginess of the marinated tomatoes which is why I used burrata, however, you can add any of your favorite cheese to the pizza and make it your way.

Can I use other toppings on my same-day pizza dough recipe?

Feel free to experiment here with your choice of additional toppings as per your taste and liking.

One way to customize this would be to add a sauce when you assemble the pizza instead of garlic butter and then add the toppings of your choice.

What to do if I don’t have an oven to make a same-day pizza dough recipe?

If you don’t have an oven cook the pizza covered in a pan for a few minutes so that the top part of the pizza is cooked too leaving you with a beautiful crust.

Can I use a store-bought pizza base?

Yes, you can use a store-bought pizza base, however, since we are making our pizza dough from scratch it is very easy to make and also doubles up the joy of having a pizza made from scratch.

Why do we use Semolina?

I have used semolina to prevent the pizza dough from sticking while stretching it. Some people also prefer cornmeal however I did not have it handy which is why I used semolina instead. Also, do not worry about having a lot of excess semolina lying around because you can make this eggless thandai rava cake recipe with it. It’s moist and combines the world of thandai and tres leches.

Can I use any other kind of yeast?

Yes, you can use any other type of yeast. You can either use instant yeast which is a bit expensive or you can use fresh yeast but it doesn’t stay longer so the only feasible option is to use active dry yeast if you’re not a regular baker. If you bake regularly then fresh yeast is the best option.

  • Salt: 12 gm

  • Lukewarm water: 400 ml
  • Marinated tomatoes:
  • Tomatoes: 250 gm
  • Vinegar: 2 tbsp
  • Chopped Garlic: 5 cloves
  • Salt: as required
  • Pepper: 1 tbsp
  • Chopped Parsley: 3 tbsp
  • Olive Oil: 2 tb0sp
  • For the garlic butter:
  • Chopped Garlic: 4 cloves
  • Butter: 4 tbsp
  • Chopped Parsley: 3 tbsp
  • Salt: as required
  • Black pepper: 1 tbsp
  • Cheddar cheese dice/grated for topping
  • Olive Oil for greasing and brushing
  • Burrata: 1 per pizza
  • Salt
